About TaxCalc

TaxCalc is a free suite of 13 tax calculators for United States taxpayers, built for the 2026 tax year and maintained by a small independent team. It exists because most tax content online falls into two traps: stale tables dressed up with the current year in the title, or lead-generation funnels that trade an estimate for your email address. Neither trap helps someone who just wants to know what a raise, a bonus, a freelance project or a token sale does to their taxes this year.

Every calculator on this site runs the same engine: the official 2026 figures published by the Internal Revenue Service in Revenue Procedure 2025-32 — the seven federal brackets, the standard deduction for each filing status, the long-term capital gains thresholds, the Alternative Minimum Tax exemptions — plus the Social Security wage base announced by the Social Security Administration. Where the law changed for 2026 (the new deductions for tips, overtime, seniors and car-loan interest, the $40,000 SALT cap, the $2,200 Child Tax Credit), the calculators model it as an input rather than a footnote. When a number is an estimate — the simplified state-tax model on the paycheck calculator, for example — the page says so in the same breath as the number.

Three principles run the site. First, privacy by architecture: there is no account, no server-side computation and no storage — every calculation happens in your browser, and refreshing the page erases everything you entered. Second, honesty about limits: these are planning tools, not filing software, and every page says so where it matters. Third, teaching over trickling: the prose under each calculator explains how the number is built, so you can audit the arithmetic yourself instead of trusting a black box. Questions, corrections or bug reports are welcome at hello@taxcalc.urbansmartguide.com — real error reports with real numbers get answered first.
